The Concertmaster Chair

DSC_1064“Winograd appeared mild-mannered but played with a wild abandon. The summer movement was a good showcase for his intensity and also allowed him space to reveal the warm, lyrical side of his musicianship.

Winograd is a renowned chamber musician and he brought a chamber sensibility to the solo violin part.”

GMM and Peter Plainfield symphony higher resPeter Winograd, internationally renowned for his performances as a solo artist and as first violinist with the American String Quartet, has also been the concertmaster of The Discovery Orchestra since the founding of the organization in 1987. In fact, George Marriner Maull and Peter’s musical partnership goes back over 30 years to Peter’s days as a Juilliard student.

Peter has also been featured as a soloist in two of the Orchestra’s Emmy-nominated, nationally-televised educational programs: Bach to the Future and Discover Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Additionally, Discovery Orchestra audience members have had the opportunity to experience Peter’s artistry and engaging personality at our Intimate Afternoon and Evening recitals with the other members of the American String Quartet.

The Concertmaster Chair honors Peter Winograd’s extraordinary tenure with The Discovery Orchestra, recognizes his partnership in helping to move forward our music listening mission, and celebrates his exceptional career as a leading concert artist.

The Concertmaster Chair offers an exclusive opportunity to applaud Peter’s achievements. An individual, couple or family is invited to support this Chair through an annual gift of $10,000 or a single gift of $200,000 to establish an endowment to fund the Concertmaster Chair in perpetuity.

As a gesture of appreciation, The Discovery Orchestra will gratefully offer the following annual benefits to the Concertmaster Chair sponsor:

  • Naming of the Concertmaster Chair in recognition of the sponsor
  • Complimentary tickets to all Discovery Orchestra season programs
  • A private lunch or dinner with Peter Winograd and Maestro Maull

Endowment donors will receive these benefits for their lifetime.
