Virtual Teaching Resources for Music Educators & Lifelong Learners
Sponsored by Gail & Dan Kopp
For over 30 years, The Discovery Orchestra’s mission has been to teach the listening skills that help people really connect with classical music.
With many school buildings closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, music teachers around the world have transitioned to virtual instruction. The Discovery Orchestra would like to share resources we have developed over the years with the hope that they will benefit you and your students.
We have organized our Discovery Orchestra Chats, which are available for free on YouTube, into various categories so that you will be able to easily utilize them in your virtual instruction. Our Chat videos are short (5-15 minute) music listening lessons.
We also have started offering Maestro Maull’s Listening Guides for several pieces. The Listening Guides will be available for you to download for free to use with your students. Maestro Maull will pair the guides with recommended YouTube recordings so you can incorporate this resource into your teaching. Our Listening Guides are visual "roadmaps" describing the musical details in a piece of music.
We hope these materials will assist you in educating your students. We would love to hear from you about your experience using our resources. Please email us at Ginny@DiscoveryOrchestra.org with any feedback!
All of the shows I have been to have helped me to realize how pieces of music, well, “click”. This is especially helpful with complex orchestra pieces.
