Maestro Maull continues the journey into the beautiful second movement of Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, From the New World. After a quick review of the 3 themes found in the “A” section of this ternary (ABA) form movement, he introduces Inside Music listeners to the rollicking 4th theme that begins the “B” section… which contains those “backward glances” or references to Movement I.
Special attention will also be given to the ways in which Dvořák alters the “A” section when it returns as well highlighting the exquisitely touching coda or extra ending. This broadcast concludes with a complete playthrough of Movement II.
