Grant Will Support the Orchestra’s Local & Digital Music Education Programs
SUMMIT, New Jersey – The Discovery Orchestra (“the Orchestra”) recently received a $1,500 grant from Investors Foundation. The grant will help further The Discovery Orchestra’s mission of teaching music listening skills by providing interactive and accessible programs virtually and in-person for audiences in New Jersey and beyond.
The Orchestra applied for the grant from the Investors Foundation, which supports non-profit organizations that enrich the diverse communities served by Investors Bank.
“We are fortunate to have community partners like the Investors Foundation who continue to support our mission and work,” said Rick Kaller, Executive Director of the Orchestra. “This grant will help further our mission of teaching listening skills to help people connect to classical music in meaningful ways. The impact of Discovery programs is that audiences feel engaged, regardless of prior knowledge or experience, as they become aware that they are actively ‘listening’ instead of just ‘hearing.’”
The Investors Foundation grant will help underwrite the Orchestra’s 2022-23 programs for the public, which include a live Discovery Concert broadcast on radio station WWFM, The Classical Network, as well as Inside Music, a bi-monthly educational radio program also on WWFM. Additionally, the grant will support music listening programs for our local outreach partner organizations, which serve music students in Newark, Morristown, and Jersey City. We also offer monthly blogs, free online materials, video/podcast content and public television programs featuring Artistic Director George Marriner Maull and Orchestra members.
