Codas are those extra endings with which composers often conclude one of the movements they have written – be that movement from a symphony, concerto, sonata, string quartet, solo piano work or a ballet. These final musical paragraphs are much more than afterthoughts. Sometimes they contain the most exciting music in the entire movement! In this episode of Inside Music, host George Marriner Maull explores the coda that concludes the 3rd Movement of the First Piano Concerto by Johannes Brahms. It’s crammed with goodies to notice as we listen!
