Of Our New Day Begun: Celebrating Black History Month

This New Jersey Youth Symphony Signature Concert was recorded on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 7:00 pm The Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in Trenton, NJ.  Featuring Maestro Helen H. Cha-Pyo, Conductor of the New Jersey Youth Symphony, Maestro George Marriner Maull “Discovering Juba Dance”  and dancers from the The Newark School of the Arts with works by Omar Thomas, Florence Price, and Antonin Dvořák.

As we celebrate Black History Month, this performance provided a dynamic educational program that explored the vast and vivacious culture of African legacy in America through a captivating blend of music, oration, and dance. Featuring the New Jersey Youth Symphony led by Artistic Director Helen H. Cha-Pyo, performing works by Omar Thomas, Florence Price, and Antonin Dvořák.

Special guests include dancers from The Newark School of the Arts and Maestro George Marriner Maull in “Discovering Juba Dance.” The New Jersey Youth Symphony also featured Dvořák’s beloved Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”.
