Shout-Outs from Our Viewers and Listeners Around the World

What People are Saying about The Discovery Orchestra image with talking bubbles and musical notes.

We’ve received feedback from a number of the, by now, more than six million* individuals who have watched our Discovery Concerts  distributed by American Public Television, viewed our YouTube Discovery Orchestra Chats online, and listened to our public radio show Inside Music on WWFM The Classical Network. I’d like to share a small sampling of these comments with you … from our very first televised Discovery Concert, Bach to the Future, to the present season.

“I just watched the Discovery Concert on Bach on my local PBS channel here in the Bay Area. THANK YOU! My entire life I always knew something rich and spiritual was involved in the music of composers like Bach, BUT no one ever explained it to me. Maestro Maull, like the gracious host of a great feast, politely opened the door–and in spite of my ignorance–invited me to dine. I cried during his explanations and while the orchestra played their examples. Please thank the musicians, the recording crew and the supporters of this program. I will speak fondly of you whenever the opportunity arises. Once again, thank you for enriching my understanding.”
FO, (KQED) Danville, CA (2003)

“Watching Bach to the Future, I found myself wishing that when I was in high school in Philadelphia and went to the Academy of Music to HEAR the Philadelphia Orchestra that there had been someone/someway to teach me how to listen to classical music. Many thanks for an incredible musical learning experience.”
JM, (WHYY) Moorestown, NJ (2003)

“I love this production (Discover Beethoven’s 5th). No matter how much or how little you know about music you can enjoy it. I wish they would produce a show on Beethoven’s Symphony No 9 and all other major works of classical music. I would buy them all.”
RH, (Amazon Prime Viewer) (2011)

“Just amazing! Discover Beethoven’s 5th makes me want to go to concerts and feel the music, not just “hear” it while doing homework, driving or working.”
JP, (Amazon Prime Viewer) (2016)

“I never cared for classical music until tonight. I’m looking forward to Part 2 of Discover Vivaldi’s Four Seasons next week!”
SH, (KOPB) Portland, OR (2013)

“You are like the music teacher I never had! I devour your YouTube lessons. Thank you!”
JGR, (YouTube Discovery Orchestra Chat Viewer) Sydney, Australia (2021)

“The Piazzolla radio program was great! We both loved it!”
HJ & CJ, (WWFM The Classical Network Internet Listeners) Winston-Salem, NC (2023)

“Great series! I was born in a rural region of South America and heard music by Mozart and Beethoven and others on the radio, but I never understood anything. I was lost trying to figure out what this music was about. Fall in Love with Music brought clarity and an understanding of the music which I really appreciate.”
BP, (WTJX) St. Thomas, Virgin Islands (2016)

“I watched the first episode of Fall in Love with Music tonight. It’s the most exciting introduction to classical music I’ve ever seen or heard. You have greatly inspired me. I look forward to the remainder of your programs.”
MM, (WEDU) Tampa, FL (2016)

“Bach to the Future is a great show–and just what classical music needs!”
IS, (WHYY) Retired Member, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Philadelphia, PA (2003)

“Incredible! Tears ran down my face during your Vivaldi program!”
BH, (KCET) Los Angeles, CA (2013)

“I just had to write to tell you how much Bach to the Future impacted us. As a certified teacher with years of classroom experience, I now find myself home schooling our daughter who has Down Syndrome. She is completing credits for her high school diploma, and is earning one of those credits in music appreciation. I used your Discovery Concert as part of our course. I personally found it very interesting, and to my amazement, it kept our daughter’s attention all the way through. This program was fantastic, and approached classical music in a way that can interest everyone!”
RF, (WTTW) Marion, IL (2003)

“Loved this! What a wonderful way to experience the Infernal Dance from Stravinsky’s Firebird. More, please!”
RR, (‘Perspective’ YouTube Channel Viewer) London, England (2022)

“I watched Discover Beethoven’s 5th on public television channel 20. It was wonderful! Come to Chicago and show the Chicago Symphony Orchestra how it’s done.”
MM, (WTTW) Chicago, IL (2016)

“A joy to watch! This show is fantastic! As a lifelong music lover, I thought I knew this piece and Stravinsky, but the way Maestro Maull and The Discovery Orchestra break down the Infernal Dance from Stravinsky’s Firebird, so that you can clearly detect and see the patterns in the music, is just eye-opening. I feel like I’ve just gained a deeper understanding of how to listen to music, and not just this composition, but music in general. Thank you Discovery Orchestra!”
M, Amazon Prime Viewer (2021)

“This was simply incredible. What a learning experience I had watching Bach to the Future today–and I’m in my eighties!”
HP, (WHYY) Lewes, DE (2003)

“I’m listening to your show Inside Music on WWFM, today. I was working on my computer when it came on the radio. EXCELLENT … and I just discovered that there appear to be previous shows available to listen to. E X C E L L E N T!”
LT, (WWFM The Classical Network Listener) Howell, NJ (2024)

“As you began the course Fall in Love with Music–we were smitten. Nothing that came afterward–our subscriptions to the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, New York City Ballet, Tanglewood and others would have otherwise happened. When you had finished with us, we were fundamentally changed. As we bestow our belated thanks upon you, now that we’ve moved South, we wish you the best of everything in the future.”
BM, (NJTV) Oak Island, NC (2016)

“What a YouTube channel! A very smart concept–and I could not agree with you more–the details and nuances that a person can notice makes music a whole different thing. It goes from being just relaxing background music to something of marvelous power, meaning and beauty. Very glad to have found your channel!”
KN, Svenljunga, Sweden (2020)

“Fabulous!  I was thinking to myself: “Do I really need to know all these things about The Firebird?”  But when the orchestra played it again, I was just overwhelmed. I enjoyed it so much more noticing the aspects you pointed out.”
KW, (ALL*ARTS-WLIW) New York, NY (2021)

“I was mesmerized during the entire broadcast. The way in which Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons was so precisely articulated by the extremely talented musicians of The Discovery Orchestra made listening to it a magical experience. The narration by your conductor facilitated an understanding of the piece that was previously unknown to me. I have listened to, studied, and loved classical music my whole life, but this performance produced in me feelings that no other listening occasion has ever done! Completely unique.”
JB, (KUED) Salt Lake City, UT (2013)

“Fantastic!” (Discover Saint-Saëns’ “Organ” Symphony)
WC, (WXXI) Retired Principal Percussionist Rochester Philharmonic, Bloomfield, NY (2023)

“I loved this concert on the last movement of the Saint-Saëns Symphony No. 3. It was great to see it taken apart and there were things in it I did not know … and I am an organist! This was too cool. As I watched it this week, I wished I’d been there! So well done!!!”
MF, (WTVS) Detroit, MI (2023)
